  • Customizable Fit: Roller shades can be custom-made to fit any window size or shape, providing a tailored solution for both residential and commercial spaces.

  • Light Control: Depending on the fabric chosen, roller shades provide varying degrees of light filtration, from sheer options that let in natural light to blackout fabrics that block almost all light.

  • Space-Saving: The compact design of roller shades allows them to fit tightly against the window frame, making them an ideal choice for smaller spaces or for those looking to maximize their view.

Corded Roller Shades

Custom corded roller shades in the Melbourne area are classic window treatments known for their simplicity and effectiveness. They feature a single piece of fabric that rolls up and down smoothly on a roller mechanism. The corded operation allows for precise control over the height of the shades and the amount of light entering the room.

Using corded roller shades is straightforward: a continuous cord loop hangs vertically along the side of the shades. To adjust the shades, simply pull on the cord to raise or lower them to your desired position. The cord loop makes it easy to fine-tune the level of light and privacy throughout the day by gently guiding the fabric to the preferred height.

Light Filtering Options

Roller shades are available in various light filtering options, each offering unique benefits to suit different preferences for privacy, light control, and ambiance:

1% Openness: Roller shades with 1% openness provide maximum privacy and light control. They block almost all incoming light and offer complete opacity when closed. Ideal for bedrooms, media rooms, or spaces where total darkness is desired, 1% openness shades create a cozy and secluded atmosphere.

3% Openness: Roller shades with 3% openness strike a balance between privacy and visibility. They allow some natural light to filter through while reducing glare and providing moderate privacy. 3% openness shades are suitable for living areas, offices, or rooms where a softer, diffused light effect is preferred.

5% Openness: Roller shades with 5% openness offer enhanced visibility of the outdoors while still providing adequate privacy and light control. They allow more natural light to enter the room compared to higher openness levels, creating a brighter and more open atmosphere. 5% openness shades are ideal for rooms where maintaining a connection with the outside environment is important, such as dining rooms or kitchens.

Blackout: Blackout roller shades are designed to block out all incoming light, offering complete darkness and maximum privacy when fully closed. They are ideal for bedrooms, nurseries, or any space where light control and privacy are paramount. Blackout shades also provide thermal insulation benefits, helping to regulate room temperature and improve energy efficiency.

  • What are other names used for zebra shades?
Custom zebra shades are also known as zebra blinds, illusion shades, dual shades, transitional shades, layered shades, vision shades, banded shades, day and night shades, or striped shades.
  • What are custom zebra blinds and shades made of?
Custom zebra shades are made with a single piece of fabric that has alternating bands of translucent and solid fabric for a striped appearance.

Yes, we recommend getting them motorized to the ease of use and ability to be controlled remotely.
  • Can zebra blinds and shades be installed on any window size or shape?
Custom Zebra shades are highly adaptable and can be tailored to accommodate various window sizes and shapes. Their lightweight design makes them especially effective for large windows, as they are easy to operate. For smaller or uniquely shaped windows, like circular or triangular ones, it’s advisable to consult with a window treatment specialist to ensure an optimal fit and functionality.
  • Are custom zebra blinds and shades in style?
Whether zebra shades are stylish for your home is a matter of personal opinion and varies depending on whom you ask. While interior designers might suggest avoiding them because of their unique design, guests may find their modern and trendy appearance appealing. Additionally, consider the space you want to cover. Zebra shades can be eye-catching and might seem too busy, especially in rooms with numerous windows. In such instances, choosing a different type of shade could provide a more subtle and cohesive look. You may refer to Roller Shades.

Please be aware that if we have to order fabrics, there is a small chance they may be backordered. Even with careful planning, materials that appear available at the time of selection can sometimes become backordered by the time we cut the fabric. It may take up to a week or more to learn about a backorder, especially with popular colors. If this happens, we will provide temporary shades or offer alternative fabrics from the same or a different catalog. While we work closely with trusted suppliers, we cannot control their inventory, so availability cannot be guaranteed. Backorders are rare, occurring in approximately 3% of our orders. To avoid potential delays, we recommend selecting at least two fabric options rather than just one. This will allow us to quickly switch to an alternative if your first choice is unavailable.
